THE SCRIPTWRITER

The Scriptwriter
The Scriptwriter

Few years ago, sometimes on his way to school with his wonderful, talented brother, a bright young boy would look in excitement as he took in the sights and sounds of the environment especially the sight of the roasted plantain and groundnut (bole ati epa :)) ,the wondrous “smell” or would scent be a more appropriate word? and the sound of the charcoal going “pa! tah! ratatah!!”

Awww! He could only dream. Don’t get it twisted, he was grateful for the seasonal “mercy drops” of one or two king-sized plantains once in a while, but he really wanted the “showers of blessings”. He told himself “When I am older, I would buy all the bole and epa that I can!”

That, my friends, was the little boy’s dream. His mission statement, so to say. …and His name is Ire.

In the same vein, if I was given a clean slate a few years ago to paint a picture of what I wanted my life and that of my family to look like, it would most likely have been filled with myopic things which I would have thought were the peak of achievement. If you need further confirmation, you can reread the story above.

Imagine God asking me what I wanted and then getting a reply like “God, please give me all the roasted plantain in the world!” kai! Well, fast forward a few years and the desire for “bole” seems to be dying a natural death.

What if God had answered my prayers as I asked then? Hmm. Then I would be stuck with a warehouse filled with “bole”. Lol. Well, I would most likely have become a mega distributor by now, but that’s by the way.

Now, when most of us pray, we take our will to God for Him to merely approve it, and when He doesn’t, we throw tantrums like little children, without knowing that God refuses to give us “good” when there is “great” available. Understandably, sometimes “great” may not be anywhere in sight or may not look the way we expect.

If God gave us what we wanted every time, we would despise it. Why? Because more often than not, what we want is not what we need.

God sees a bigger picture…the bigger picture! He has the script in His hands. He wants to give you a better life. He wants to do something beyond your wildest imaginations. He wants to make your life the best story ever told; the best script that has ever been written. He wants to make you a Masterpiece! All you have to do is to trust Him. God is a scriptwriter. The best ever. Are you willing to do what He dictates? Are you willing to live by the script?

“That’s why we have this Scripture text:
No one’s ever seen or heard anything like this,
Never so much as imagined anything quite like it—
What God has arranged for those who love him” 1 Corinthians 2:9

“God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!” Ephesians 3:20.

Shalom!

  1. Local boy… Boli and epa 😂😂😂 really?!!!! Ire come on!!!! Healthy living tinz. Making some of us look bad. 😂 What happened to ice cream, sweet and chewing gum, even burger.
Your mom is really lucky to have you if that was your fantasy “want” at the time. You won’t have liked ijekuje.

My own was definitely ice cream. I made a pact with myself to buy all the ice cream in the world when I have “money”. Heheheheee… Suffice it to say that I have small “change” to throw around and ice cream doesn’t even feature in my thoughts most of the time based on fit fam things 😉😂

I quite agree with you that at different Stages of our lives, our wants/needs change and what seemed very important 5 years ago becomes a source of joke tomorrow. It would have been a complete disaster if God gave in to our every whim then. I’m so happy we serve a God who knows the end from the beginning, the one who holds the blue print of our lives in his hands.
I get anxious, worried even scared sometimes but when I remember this, the peace and calm is unexplainable.

In retrospect, I can say that I’m really happy somethings didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to.

    God bless you sir!

    1. Amen! Hahaha!! All those ijekuje were nice too but then boli and epa had a way of making me happy. Just seeing it sef was enough to make me happy. Lool. You have sweet tooth tho 🙂 All dem ice cream and pizza people. One statement you made rings very true, “what seemed very important years ago…becomes a source of joke tomorrow” Ultimately, it is in trusting God, His will, His way and very importantly, His timing, that we can become who play our parts as The Scriptwriter intends! Thanks for sharing. God bless you ma!

  3. Well done again Ire. Wonderful write up and relevant lessons drawn from it. Not all our heart’s desires are God’s desires for us. We should always earnestly seek His face in pursing our desires so we don’t leave the centre of His will for us.

I suppose the word you wanted for ‘smell/scent’ there is Aroma! Boli and Epa has always been and is still a favourite for me. I even try and make it at home using the barbecue grill.

    1. Hmmm.. Thanks for the lessons shared and thanks for helping me with the word “Aroma” *big smile*. I appreciate! It’s also good to know that the interest in Boli and Epa is not for me alone 🙂 Thank you ma!
