LETTER TO MY YOUNGER SELF – OYETADE OPAJOBI

Dear Lil Tee,

I know for sure you are happy and are full of hopes enjoying your teenage years being carefree and enjoying the attention placed on you. It’s been a great journey of discovery in the land of the living. Today let’s talk about love.

tade-old

I know you, like me, have your dreams and plans for the future, the kind of man you would love to settle down with (Tall –very basic, handsome – more basic than the height, and he just has to be HAIRY. I say this in capital letters; everything else is secondary). I also know you most likely have set an age which you desire to be married (like me, I chose 25). Today I’m above 25 and I am so not married and that’s why am writing to teach you a few lessons I have come to learn.

God’s ways are so not our ways and so are His plans for us. As I approached 25, it became clearer to me that I was certainly not ready for marriage at 25. It didn’t hurt me because I had a clear understanding of what God had planned for me at 25(and it was not marriage). The basic lesson I learnt here was to trust God at every step of the way and let Him have His way (that’s the best thing that can ever happen to you).

Secondly, instead of clearly scrutinizing every dude that comes your way and wishing for those that didn’t even look your way to do so, I have learnt that you should invest in prayers for the future. The picture might not be so clear but I am sure you have an idea of what you want your home to be like, pray about those things in advance. Don’t chill till you are 22 or 23 to start praying. Start now, so that when it’s time to withdraw, you will have a lot available to you.

Thirdly, Sweetheart, I’m sure like me, you want a ‘perfect’ man, well I will say you should strive to be a ‘perfect’ woman. Can you conveniently get married to someone who behaves like you? Work on yourself and build your potentials. Don’t be carried away by looks and sweet talks. Be patient with yourself and strive to be a better person as the day goes by. It sounds strange coming from me right?

I strongly believe that a woman is to be found not to be going around finding. In the meantime, use the most priceless resource available to you – your time- WELL. What you love, you certainly make time for (I learnt that in church).  Tee, love God more by the day and please, do not neglect the fellowship of believers. Make sure you give God quality time. Read the bible. Give God the best you have got (TIME, TALENT, TREASURES). Ensure that you render help in every way possible and at all times. Don’t waste your time trying to impress guys, impress God and all other things including ‘him’ will fall in place.

25 might work out for you, it might not. Kindly stick to Gods plan for your life again I say ‘THAT’S THE BEST THING THAT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU’. In my next letter, which will be much later, I will give you some tips as to what to do when he finds you. Take care of you and live life to the fullest. God loves you so do I.

With Love from Triple O.
