But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled.

As young as David was in the passage, he knew the God of Israel. Even though all the men of Israel who went to battle did not know their God, David who was not qualified to be in the army knew his God- the God of Israel; and with this knowledge he was able to gain victory for his people.

Dear believer, David went to face his enemy in the name of the Lord his God. In whose name do you go to face your challenges? It is very easy for us to go in the name of some highly placed individuals in order to have our way in some places or in some situations and often times we forget that there is a name that is higher than every other name- the name of JESUS. Please remember that all authority in heaven and on earth have been given to Him and at the call of His name every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11). No matter how famous or influential the name you take is, as long as it is not the name of Jesus, it is still inferior and it is subject to that higher name. Therefore, where ever you go, whatever you face in life, just take the name of Jesus with you.

Jesus, I step out this week in your powerful and awesome name! Amen.
